Honeymoon Planning Tips with Jessica Upton

There is a lot to think through while planning + scheduling all of the details of your honeymoon. After spending months prepping for your wedding day, your honeymoon should be as carefree and exciting as possible!

Our friend Jessica Upton, Founder and Luxury Travel Advisor of J.Upton Travel, has put together a list of helpful tips and pieces of advice to help make this process everything it's supposed to be! Here are some of her nuggets of knowledge and gold below!

Honeymoon Planning Tips -

  1. Hone in on a destination- Consider what you want to do and experience on this special vacation. Do you envision gazing over a mountainside sipping wine, laying on a beach with a cocktail in hand doing absolutely nothing, or bustling about the cobblestone streets of an enchanting city exploring all the sights? Discuss your wishes with your partner and together decide what pace you want on your honeymoon. You may be surprised at how you each want something a little different, and finding the right destination/s to fit those preferences can take some time and research.

  2. Departure date- Don’t book a flight out the morning after your wedding! Give yourself at least a day to recuperate. And if traveling right after your wedding weekend isn’t the most optimal time, waiting a few months is perfectly acceptable. Just keep in mind the weather between seasons when you decide on the best travel dates. (You don’t want to be in the Greek isles in February or on a Caribbean island in hurricane season.)

  3. Rely on the professionals- Now more than ever, the value of using a Travel Advisor is quite evident. With constant flight cancellations, changing international travel restrictions, widely varying rates, and promotions with hotels, navigating when and how to book your reservations can be stressful. And while you’re in the midst of planning a wedding, added stress is the last thing you want to add to your plate. A Travel Advisor is also available to you during your trip, so if you have any hiccups along the way, they are there to help.

  4. Protect your investment- Travel insurance is always a good idea, especially now after what we’ve all been through over the past couple of years. We know you’re not planning on canceling your honeymoon, but what if either of you gets sick, hurt, or loses a job and can’t travel? These are all situations that have come up before, so spend a few hundred dollars on a travel insurance policy to protect the thousands that you're spending on this special vacation.

  5. Capture your memories- Hire a local photographer to capture your outing one evening. You can either search through Instagram using hashtags like #romeitalyphotographer or check Flytographer to see if they have a photographer in the destination you’ll be visiting.
